Comparison of the open primary repair with augmentation and without augmentation in acute achilles tendon rupture

چکیده
Materials and methods: Data were evaluated from 41 patients that underwent surgical repair for acute Achilles tendon ruptures with these 2 diff erent surgery methods. In the fi rst group, which included 21 patients (19 male, 2 female; mean age: 36.8 years; age range: 22 to 49), we performed augmentation with the plantaris tendon aft er an end-to-end primary repair with a modifi ed Kessler technique. In the second group, which included 20 patients (19 male, 1 female; mean age: 41.4 years; age range: 23 to 52), we did not perform augmentation aft er the end-to-end primary repair with a modifi ed Kessler technique. For both groups, we used polydioxanone suture (PDS) materials in Kessler knots.

Minimally Invasive Repair of Acute Achilles Tendon Rupture Using Gift Box Technique
Background: This study aimed to introduce a modified technique for minimally invasive Achilles tendon (AT) rupture repairusing gift box sutures. The preliminary clinical and functional outcomes were investigated among a number of patients. Methods: In a consecutive case series study, 24 patients with acute AT rupture underwent modified minimally invasiveAT repair using two mini...
متن کاملAugmentation vs Nonaugmentation Techniques for Open Repairs of Achilles Tendon Ruptures with Early Functional Treatment: A Prospective Randomized Study.
A prospective randomized study was conducted in order to compare augmentation technique versus nonaugmentation technique, followed by early functional postoperative treatment, for operative repair of Achilles tendon ruptures. Twenty-four consecutive patients were assigned to two groups. Group I included 12 patients treated with Lindholm augmentation technique, whereas group II included 12 patie...
متن کاملPatellar Tendon Repair With Ipsilateral Semitendinosus Autograft Augmentation
Patellar tendon ruptures are rare but potentially devastating injuries. Acute repair after patellar tendon rupture affords the best opportunity for tension-free restoration of the extensor mechanism. Biological augmentation of primary repair is believed to decrease strain across the repair site and reduce the risk of rerupture. We present a technique for primary patellar tendon repair with bidi...
متن کاملAchilles Tendon Repair, A Modified Technique
Background: Wound complications following open repair for acute Achilles tendon ruptures (AATR) remain the subject of significant debate. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of covering repaired AATR using well-nourished connective tissues (paratenon and deep fascia) to avoid complications after open repair. Methods: In this case series study, open repair was performed for 3...
متن کاملA Prospective Study of Platelet-Rich Plasma as Biological Augmentation for Acute Achilles Tendon Rupture Repair
Acute Achilles tendon rupture is one of the most common tendon injuries in adults. We hypothesized that Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) can be used as biological augmentation for surgical treatment of acute Achilles tendon rupture. Our study is a prospective randomized controlled trial. Patients with acute Achilles tendon rupture undergoing surgical repair were randomly assigned into either control ...
